Electrical Engineer for Heavy Electrical Infrastructure & Power Systems

 

Location: Charlotte, NC

 

Position Type: Full-Time, Exempt

 

Base Salary Range: $130,000 – $165,000 / year (Commensurate with experience and licensure)

 

Target Total Cash Compensation: $145,000 – $190,000+ / year (Base Salary + Quarterly Profit Sharing)

Compensation Structure: Direct Quarterly Profit Sharing

We believe that when the company succeeds, the engineers doing the heavy lifting should share directly in the financial rewards.

 

• Base Salary ($130,000 – $165,000): Base salary determined by licensure (NC PE), technical expertise, and power systems experience.

• Quarterly Profit Sharing (Virtual Equity Plan): Atom Engineering sets aside 20% of net quarterly profits into an employee virtual equity pool. Eligible team members receive quarterly cash payouts tied directly to overall company performance.  Six (6) months of full time employment is required before consideration into the Virtual Equity Plan.

• Real Financial Alignment:  High-performing quarters lead directly to quarterly cash distributions, bringing total annual target cash compensation to $145,000 – $190,000+.

   

What You’ll Do

• Lead Complex Power Designs: Design robust electrical infrastructure for commercial, industrial, healthcare, and mission-critical facilities.

• Perform Power System Studies: Conduct short-circuit, protective device coordination, and Arc Flash hazard risk assessments.

• Get Hands-On: Step out of the office to perform site walks, verify field conditions, support commissioning, and resolve critical field challenges.

• Execute High-Impact Projects: Work on high-visibility infrastructure, such as live multi-generator replacements and emergency power integrations.

   

What We’re Looking For

• Education:  Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.

• Licensure:  Professional Engineer (PE) license, preferably in the State of NC or ability to obtain via comity.

• Technical Expertise: Experience in low-to-medium voltage electrical design, fault calculations, NFPA 70E compliance, and single-line diagram creation.

• Field-Ready Mindset: Willingness to wear safety gear, perform site verification checks, and interface directly with facility operators and contractors.

• Tools: Proficiency in AutoCAD, SKM Power*Tools, and Google Workspace applications.
